This article was written in response to the media frenzy about the issue of Specialist Plastic Surgeons’ social media being responsible for body image anxiety. In the […]
As we go through life many external factors take their toll on our face and necks – leaving us with deep wrinkles, lax skin and an aged appearance.
Unsatisfied with how your face is showing obvious signs of ageing? Smooth your facial skin with a face and neck lift – designed to improve the signs of ageing and give you a more youthful and invigorated appearance.
What is a face and neck lift?
The face and neck lift is a procedure that works to effectively tighten the skin for a more youthful and radiant look. Loose excess skin, fat deposits and underlying muscles in the face and neck (SMAS and Platysma), that have descended and attenuated with ageing, gravity, sun exposure, genetics and environmental stresses, are restored to create a more youthful appearance.
Depending on an individual’s facial structure and personal preference, a face and neck lift can involve:
- Tightening the underlying SMAS and Platysma
- Removing excess fat from the neck
- Recontouring the jawline
- Restoring volume to areas that have lost volume with ageing such as the cheeks (malar eminences), brow and lips
- Removing sagging skin
A facelift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures to rejuvenate the face such as a brow lift, eyelid surgery or laser resurfacing. Dr Anh will discuss the details of the procedure during your consultation and how she can help you recreate a fresh and natural rejuvenated appearance.
What should I expect from my consultation?
The initial consultation can be daunting for you. It is only natural to feel nervous about revealing your concerns about your face and neck. Dr Anh Nguyen understands that you may feel this way and will try to make the consultation as comfortable for you as possible.
During a 45 minute consultation Dr Anh will discuss with you what options are available to you (type of face/neck lift, scars etc), complications and implications if a complication were to occur, the steps that will be taken to minimise these complications, the aftercare steps and expected postoperative recovery.
Thereafter, she will discuss with you what options are available to you (type of face/neck lift, scars etc), complications and implications if a complication were to occur, the steps that will be taken to minimise these complications, the aftercare and expected postoperative recovery.
She will show you before and after photos of her patients who have had a face/neck lift, answer any of your questions and provide you with written material about facial rejuvenation/ cosmetic surgery for you to take home. A quote will be given to you at the end of the consultation and the practice manager will explain all of the costs involved in the surgery.
Dr Nguyen believes that the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is a very personal and important one and should not be made without considerable research, information and understanding. That is why she will recommend you go and seek other opinions, obtain as much information as possible and be comfortable with the surgeon you choose to perform the cosmetic surgery for you.
Dr Nguyen will recommend a second consultation with you, to go over things again and cover any further questions that you might have.
Long-term results of face lifts
A study in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Journal in October 2010* by Owsley et al found high patient satisfaction 1 year and 10-15 years after facelift surgery. 1 year after a SMAS/Platysma face-lift, 97.8 percent described an improvement in their facial appearance that was good or had exceeded expectations. After an average follow-up of 12.6 years, 68.5 percent felt the results were good and had exceeded their expectations and felt they looked 10 years younger after a face lift.
