Refresh your look and revitalise your eyes with eyelid rejuvenation
Our eyelid rejuvenation treatment, or blepharoplasty, in Perth helps to improve the look of puffy or tired eyes by surgically tightening and lifting the skin for a refreshed, youthful look.
Blepharoplasty, the medical name for the procedure commonly referred to as an eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that improves the eye’s appearance in many ways. By removing excess skin and fat from around the eye, patients can benefit from a much more youthful, refreshed and alert look that can also add years back to their eyes and face as a whole. Sagging eyelid skin can not only make you look and feel older — causing both men and women to feel a lack of confidence and attractiveness — but in some instances, it can also lead to vision problems as the drooping eyelids can physically block the line of sight.
Fortunately, whether you have vision impairment or simply wish to revitalise your look, blepharoplasty can restore functionality and provide visible, attractive improvements in a straightforward surgical procedure that easily pairs with other cosmetic treatments, providing total facial rejuvenation. Patients can often include a blepharoplasty procedure along with their facelift or neck lift or injectables such as wrinkle relaxers or fillers. The versatility of upper eyelid surgery makes it an extremely desirable procedure to consider on its own or as a part of a broader treatment plan.
Patients who have a blepharoplasty will enjoy a highly-customisable procedure that can provide substantial rejuvenation on its own. A thorough and detailed consultation process will take into account your concerns, desired look and facial anatomy to provide you with the most attractive, individual and long-lasting result. An eyelid surgery can address both upper and lower eyelid issues, including under-eye puffiness. A full, in-person evaluation will help determine the best variant of the procedure for you.
Refresh your look and revitalise your eyes with eyelid rejuvenation
A blepharoplasty can provide a number of improvements to the eye to offer patients greater rejuvenation and better vision. Our eyelid rejuvenation treatment, or blepharoplasty, in Perth helps to reduce puffy or tired-looking eyes by surgically tightening and lifting the skin for a more refreshed and youthful appearance. Fat removal or repositioning can also give the eye a more balanced as well as more alert and wakeful look.
Eyelid rejuvenation is typically used to treat:
- Loose or sagging skin around the eyes
- Excess deposits of fat that appear as puffiness under the eyes
- Excess skin and wrinkles around the lower eyelid
- Droopiness of the lower eyelid
In addition to rejuvenating the eye and facial area of patients and improving vision, eyelid surgery also produces a more awake and inviting facial expression. Loose and sagging eyelid skin often create a tired, aged appearance that doesn’t correspond to how an individual truly feels. If you are experiencing these symptoms and the unwanted feelings they can cause, then a blepharoplasty procedure can help correct these problems and improve your sense of wellbeing. A blepharoplasty has a few limitations, however. It is not the procedure intended to address sagging eyebrows, under eye discolouration or lines around the eyes, although the surgery may improve these concerns somewhat. Other procedures, such as brow lifts, chemical peels and injectable fillers, can target those specific concerns and also complement a blepharoplasty procedure very well.
What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is the alteration of the appearance of the upper or lower eyelids to improve the way that they look cosmetically. A blepharoplasty surgery aims to rejuvenate the eyelid area and to give you a new beautiful and naturally revitalised look. This treatment can be performed on the upper or lower eyelids or both. The goal of upper and lower blepharoplasty is three-fold — to remove the excess skin and bulging fat that lead to tired and puffy-looking eyes, to improve your vision and to create a fresher and more rejuvenated appearance.
What should I expect from my consultation?
For many individuals, the initial consultation for your blepharoplasty can be daunting. You may feel nervous about discussing your concerns with your surgeon, and this is only natural. Dr Anh Nguyen understands, and she will make you feel as comfortable as possible throughout your consultation process. You are not alone in your concerns or your desire to regain your appearance and sense of satisfaction with your body.
A typical consultation will occur as follows. Dr Anh and her cosmetic consultants will spend about 30 minutes with you to gain a better understanding of why you are seeking an eyelid lift, what results you want to achieve from the eyelid surgery and what your expectations are of having the procedure. Dr Anh will obtain your medical and surgical history and then examine you in her offices to get a better understanding of your anatomy and what techniques will work best for you.
Afterward, she will discuss all available options with you as well as what to expect before, during and after your procedure. You can expect Dr Anh to spend ample time going over what to expect during your recovery also, which is just as critical a stage of your overall procedure as your time in surgery. Dr Anh will also talk about the risks of surgery, which are infrequent, aftercare requirements, symptoms to look for during recovery and steps to ensure you have the safest possible postoperative experience.
Also during your consultation, Dr Anh will show you before and after photos of previous patients who have had a blepharoplasty, answer all of your questions and provide you with written materials about eyelid cosmetic surgery for you to take home and educate yourself further. A quote will be given to you at the end of the consultation and the practice manager will explain all of the costs involved in the surgery so that you are comfortable in knowing all aspects of the procedure as well as your financing options.
Understanding is key to having a successful surgery and recovery. Since the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery is a very personal and important one, Dr Anh strongly believes it should not be made without considerable research, information and thoughtfulness. That is why she will recommend that you also obtain a second or even third opinion, so you have as much information as possible and total comfort with your ultimate decision to have surgery, your selection of surgeon and the specific variant of the procedure you will have.
You can rest assured that Dr Anh and her team will always communicate with you in regards to every aspect of your procedure and in a way that fosters deeper understanding and respect. If you have any questions at any point during the surgical process, our team welcome them and will do our very best to address concerns in a timely, friendly and upfront manner.
What will happen during my blepharoplasty procedure?
During a blepharoplasty, patients typically receive local anaesthesia with sedation. In some cases, patients may have light sedation instead, depending on their individual circumstances and needs. After sedation, Dr Anh will mark the area where she will place the incisions which will allow her to gain access to the underlying tissues where augmentations will be made. If you have decided to have both an upper and lower blepharoplasty procedure, in most cases, the upper eyelid will receive treatment before the lower eyelid.
Dr Anh will place the incisions within the natural folds of the eyelids so that they will not be visible after surgery. In addition, she will take every step possible to ensure that any visible scarring will be kept to a minimum so as not to detract from the overall final outcome of your surgery. After making her incisions, Dr Anh will repair and augment the tissues necessary to produce the look discussed during your consultation, and this may include alteration of the levator muscle (the muscle responsible for eyelid movement), excision of eyelid skin or removal or replacement of eyelid fat.
When all necessary steps have been taken, Dr Anh will close the incision with sutures. The entire procedure may take anywhere between one and a half to two and half hours, depending on which techniques your surgery involves, and since blepharoplasty is a day-hospital procedure, you will be allowed to return home immediately after your treatment to begin your recovery.
How much downtime can I expect as a result of my blepharoplasty?
Recovery after your blepharoplasty is generally comfortable and speedy. In most cases, you can return to your normal schedule and activities within a few days. However, patients should plan on having at least one week off from work and waiting for up to three weeks before their recovery is considered complete. Any strenuous exercise and activities should also be delayed for three weeks to allow all incisions to heal safely.
What risks does a blepharoplasty have?
After your blepharoplasty, it is not uncommon to experience a few side effects which are common to all surgeries. These symptoms will include mild to moderate bruising and swelling, mild pain, for which you will receive medication, watering and dry eyes and temporary blurred vision during the first couple of days after surgery. It is very important that you do not rub your eyes during recovery so that you do not affect your incisions or sutures. Contact lenses should also be avoided for up to two weeks as a precaution against contact with treated eyelids. Sunglasses can provide you with additional eye protection during your recovery and should be worn as often as your activities permit.
For almost all patients, recovery is comfortable and uneventful, and Dr Anh will ensure you are completely prepared for your time at home so you recover fully without complications and with optimal results. Even after an ideal recovery at home, it will still take time to have your full results, although immediate improvements will be noticeable. This is because the healing process will continue well beyond the initial three-weeks of recovery. It will take between 12 and 18 months for scars to mature, but since incisions are in the skin’s natural folds, they will remain inconspicuous. Results from your blepharoplasty will, however, be long-lasting, and you can enjoy your new rejuvenated facial features for many years to come.

Can an eye lift be combined with another surgical procedure?
You can choose to combine an eye lift procedure with another procedure, although this will depend on your health and the type of procedure you wish to have in addition. Depending on the improvement you wish to achieve, Dr Anh may recommend a facelift or neck lift. This can rejuvenate your overall facial appearance and help improve how youthful you look.
Are eye lifts the same as eyelid surgery?
Yes, the eye lift procedure is sometimes referred to as eyelid rejuvenation as it corrects the tissue on and surrounding the eyelid. This is a less technical term for the procedure although it defines the same surgery.
The procedure’s goal is to remove excess tissue or make the skin tighter that is surrounding your eye. The procedure can improve an individual’s comfort and appearance, and many patients believe that an eyelid rejuvenation surgery can make them look younger. Let’s talk, book your consultation today!
