Patient Journey with Dr Anh

Choosing to undergo plastic surgery is a huge decision, and one that can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time. After all, you only have one body, so you need to be confident that you have chosen the right surgeon who listens and understands exactly what you are hoping to achieve.

Having plastic surgery is a journey, one that begins with research and ends with the body of your dreams. Are you thinking of surgery, but not sure what to expect? No matter which step in your patient journey you are at, we are here to help.

Researching your dream procedure

Your patient journey usually begins when you start considering the possibility of plastic surgery. Before you start searching for a specific surgeon, we’d suggest researching the procedure itself. Learn about how the procedure steps, any potential risks and complications, and how long your recovery will take. Having a general understanding of your procedure of choice can help you determine whether you are ready to take your surgical journey further.

Your consultation with Dr Anh

Attending your first consultation can be a surreal experience. If you decide to have a consultation with Dr Anh, you will spend around 45 minutes with her to discuss your concerns and desires, learn more about your procedure and determine whether she is the ideal surgeon for you. You will also be given a quote of all procedure costs during your initial consultation.

Choosing the right plastic surgeon

If you are ready to commit to surgery, it is time to find the right surgeon for you. Do some research and make a shortlist of potential surgeon candidates in your area. Take a look at the before and after photos of the procedure you are seeking and take to online reviews and patient forums to read about the experience of previous patients.

Most importantly, be sure to check the qualifications of each surgeon on your shortlist. Are they are FRACS qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon? How many years of experience do they have? How many times have they performed your procedure of choice? These are all important questions to answer before consulting with any surgeon. We recommend using the ASAPS website to find a qualified Specialist Plastic Surgeon.

The procedure

On the day of your procedure, you will see Dr Anh one final time before being introduced to your anaesthetist, who will administer your general anaesthetic. Your procedure will then be performed by Dr Anh and her experienced surgical team.

Preparing for surgery

Once you have decided to proceed with surgery, our dedicated surgical team will help you organise a surgery date, review all of your details and walk you through the consent forms. They will also help you work out any details regarding Medicare eligibility, private health insurance and funding your procedure.

Prior to your procedure, you will be given more information regarding medication, pre operative eating and what to bring with you into hospital. You will also be advised to maintain a healthy diet and stop smoking at least six weeks prior to surgery.

Before surgery, ensure you have everything prepared for your recovery. Set up a comfortable place in your home to relax, organise someone to help you at home and ensure that you have requested enough time off work to allow for healing.

The recovery

Once your surgery is complete and you have woken up from anaesthesia, you will be treated for any discomfort or nausea. Patients who have had surgery under local anaesthesia are usually able to return home almost immediately. If you have had a general anaesthesia, you will need to stay in the hospital for at least a few hours, although some patients require an overnight stay, depending on the procedure.

When you are ready to return home, your dressings will be checked a final time, any required painkillers will be prescribed and you will be given a discharge letter and emergency contact numbers for peace of mind.

Recovery times vary from surgery to surgery. However, in most cases you will be able to return to work within one to two weeks, and able to resume all activities by week six.

Enjoying your results long-term

Around seven to 10 days after your surgery, you will have an in-clinic follow up with Dr Anh to review your surgical results, change dressings and receive any relevant additional instructions. You will also need to attend a further post-op appointment six months following your procedure to review your results.

Once you have fully healed, you will finally be able to enjoy the body you have dreamed of achieving. Congratulations!
