“Need help defining your curves? Our liposuction procedure can remove otherwise immovable areas of fat.”
Are you struggling to lose stubborn fat deposits around the body such as on the hips, thighs, arms, stomach and under the chin?
Our plastic surgeon Dr Anh and her team of cosmetic and medical professionals can help you achieve the shape you desire using advanced technology and years of experience. We utilise two different types of liposuction so you can achieve optimum results, these include Liposoft and suction-assisted liposuction, each of which has different pros and cons.
What is a liposuction?
Liposuction refers to the removal of excess fat with a suction cannula through small incisions. Fat can be removed from areas with high fat content including the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, under the chin, knees and neck, all without the need for large incisions or extensive downtime.
The procedure is designed to help recontour the body and create a shapelier physique on an already healthy individual who is close to their goal weight. The procedure can be performed under local or general anaesthesia, usually as a day procedure.
The average liposuction procedure takes about 1 – 2 hours to complete but this will depend on the size and number of areas that will be treated. If a local anaesthetic is used, some additional time will be required for the fat to become numb before Dr Anh can go ahead.
It’s important to note that liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss. It is, however, an excellent body contouring tool.

What are the benefits of liposoft?
As the name might suggest, Liposoft is a gentler form of traditional liposuction – it also doesn’t require a general anaesthetic. The Liposoft system is able to offer much less downtime while still producing similar results. To achieve the desired outcome, fluid is injected into the treated area in order to soften the fat before it’s removed. From there, a cannula is inserted to break up and remove the fat. Any excess fluid will still need to be drained for several days after the procedure.
What is suction-assisted liposuction?
Suction-assisted liposuction can be used to treat a variety of conditions, including gynecomastia, lymphedema, extreme obesity, lipomas and lipodystrophy. During the procedure, a cannula is used to break up and suction out unwanted fat through an incision. The ultrasonic energy that is emitted is what helps soften the fat before it is extracted. A slightly longer incision is required for this specific type of liposuction procedure.
Liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss
The ideal candidate for liposuction will be healthy and have achieved or at least be close to their ideal weight. It’s also recommended that liposuction patients refrain from smoking in the weeks leading up to and after their procedure as this can affect the healing process.
Smoking directly impacts the health of the blood vessels, which are essential during recovery. It’s essential that patients have realistic expectations about what can be achieved and a clear idea of the areas they want to target.
Following your liposuction procedure, a special foam dressing is applied to the treated area together with a form-fitting garment that is worn to reduce the bruising and swelling that can occurs after liposuction. It is recommended that this compression garment be worn both day and night for at least 4-6 weeks after a liposuction treatment for the best results.
It’s safe for patients to start engaging in light exercise such as walking a day or two after their procedure as this can help the body heal more rapidly. Keeping the area clean is also essential but Dr Anh will provide you with very specific aftercare instructions following your procedure.
