Beginning your plastic surgery journey should always be an exciting process, as you finally take the first steps to achieving the body of your dreams. However, if you are considering going under the knife, you may be wondering how much your procedure will cost.
Unfortunately, the exact cost of plastic surgery in Australia is almost impossible to find with a simple Google search. The truth is that the exact cost of any cosmetic procedure varies amongst each individual patient, making it extremely difficult for Dr Anh to advertise a precise figure.
Plastic surgery is commonly regarded as highly expensive, due to the multi-faceted cost structure that is involved. Dr Anh will provide you with a comprehensive estimate of costs before your procedure. This price estimate will typically include surgeons’s fees, anaesthetist’s fees, hospital fees and, in some cases, implant costs.
Surgical fees for any cosmetic procedure will usually include the cost of the entire surgery, as well as both pre-operative and after care. These fees are fixed and will depend on the surgeon you choose. The figure your surgeon charges will depends on a number of factors, such as their professional qualifications, experience, professional recognition, location and popularity.
Dr Anh will endeavour to supply you with a detailed breakdown of her surgical fees at your first consultation.
All plastic surgery procedures with Dr Anh are performed under either a general or local anaesthetic, depending on the surgery. The anaesthetist who administers your anaesthetic and monitors your wellbeing during your cosmetic procedure will also charge a fee.
As with most other medical specialists, anaesthetists do not have a standard scale of fees. Your anaesthetist fees will depend on the qualifications and experience of the anaesthetist who attends to you. Dr Anh works closely with her preferred anaesthetist and information on how to obtain a quote for this service will be listed on your surgical quote.
Dr Anh and any anaesthetist that attends to you are only regarded as “independent contractors” who utilise the facilities of private hospitals. Given this, Dr Anh is unfortunately unable to negotiate, discuss or agree on the financial arrangements that the hospital makes with patients in regards to fees.
Most cosmetic procedures are performed as a day procedure and thus the cost given as your hospital fee will not include an overnight stay. If an overnight stay is needed, you can expect your hospital fees to increase.
If you are undergoing a breast augmentation, you can also expect the cost of your implants to be added to your surgical price tag. You can choose from a wide variety of available breast implants, which Dr Anh will discuss with you depending on the result you are hoping to achieve.
The cost of your breast implants will vary depending on the brand, texture, shape and size you choose. As a general rule, teardrop implants are more expensive than their round counterpart. And of course, the bigger the implant, the higher the cost. Again, Dr Anh will help you determine the texture, size and shape that will best suit your aesthetic goals during your initial consultation.
Will the plastic surgery cost be covered by my insurance?
Most plastic surgery procedures are regarded as purely cosmetic and are typically not covered by Medicare. However, if the surgery is medically necessary, Medicare may cover some of the costs. Some cases of this may include skin removal after massive weight loss, rhinoplasty to improve impaired breathing or a blepharoplasty to remove sagging skin that obscures vision.
Depending on your private insurance policy, some hospital fees and other costs may be reimbursed. Of course, anything that is not covered will be an out-of-pocket expense for you. If you are hoping that your private insurance will cover some of the costs, be sure to clarify exactly what is and isn’t covered with your insurance fund before booking any cosmetic procedure.
