Facts & Treatments: Laser Therapy and Chemical Peels

There is no need to look tired all the time. Our medispa has all of the latest non surgical treatments available to restore a rested appearance, including dermal fillers, laser therapy and chemical peels.

What are dark circles?

Dark circles occur when the skin underneath the eyes appear darkened. Under eye circles may be purple, blue, dark brown or black in colour, depending on your natural skin tone. Dark circles are often accompanied by under eye bags, which can make your complexion appear dull, tired and older than you really are.

While dark circles can affect anyone, they are most common in the elderly, people of colour and those with a genetic predisposition to the condition. Unfortunately, dark circles can be hard to get rid of, leaving you looked exhausted and unwell, no matter how well-rested you are.

What causes dark circles?

Dark circles are typically attributed to tiredness and a lack of sleep. Despite that, dark circles and under eye bags have a number of causes, including the natural ageing process.

With age, the tissue structures and muscles supporting the eyelids weaken. Collagen production slows and the skin begins to sag and lose fat. Thinning of the under eye can make the blood vessels under the eyes more prominent. Another effect of age is the development of puffy eyelids or hollows under the eyes.

Other factors leading to this condition may include fatigue, allergies, eczema, sun exposure, eye strain, dehydration and genetics.

Our solutions

Looking to restore a bright, vibrant, well-rested appearance? Depending on the extent of your dark circles and your overall aesthetic goals, we can rejuvenate the appearance of your eyes using a number of medical grade technologies. Here at Dr Anh’s Medispa, we offer a number of treatments to reduce dark circles and under eye bags, including:

Dermal fillers

Dermal filler injections are designed to restore lost volume in the skin. Once injected, dermal fillers encourage the growth of new collagen. This will help with volume loss under the eye area, which is a cause of this skin condition.

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) injections use the plasma from your own blood to stimulate cell repair and improve the appearance of your under eyes. Once injected back into the skin, PRP will stimulate the production of collagen, ultimately working to regain lost volume, clear away puffiness and combat pigmentation problems causing this skin condition.

CO2 laser

CO2 laser resurfacing treatments use carbon dioxide as an ablative therapy to gently heat underneath the skin. Treatments promote the production of collagen and tighten the skin, which can help improve the appearance of pigmented dark circles.

Fraxel utilises fractionated laser resurfacing technology to gently heat the layers underneath the skin. Through enhanced collagen production, Fraxel can restore the tone and volume in your eye area, minimising the appearance of this condition.

Chemical peels

During a chemical peel treatment, a solution will be applied to the skin to exfoliate away the outer layers. This stimulates the production of collagen and the growth of new, fresh skin. Doing so can lighten dark pigmentation under the eyes.
